What Actions Should
Congress Take with Respect to
Illegal
Immigration?
Introduction:
I have read all 614 pages of S.2611 “Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006” (see attached critique of some aspects of the Bill). The Senate completely ignored the will of the majority of US Citizens in drafting this Bill. In this criticism I will attempt to present a rational approach to what Congress should be addressing.
First, what is wrong in the Senate Bill, I have written a “short analysis” of the bill which points out some of the more grievous problems. To summarize:
- Less than 5.5% (36½ pages of the 614 pages) address real Border Security Issues (mostly directed at requiring studies which should have already been done).
- The cost and impact on America of the rest of the Bill was not even considered.
- Alternative ways of accomplishing a solution (financing, approach, etc,) were not considered.
- What needed study
is the “path to citizenship and guest worker
programs”.
